This is a manifestation of "the fear that his eyes are too big." This regime fears the most the freedom of Mikheil Saakashvili in Georgia, - said Petre Tsiskarishvili, the General Secretary of the "Unity-National Movement," regarding the case of the former president of Georgia, which concerns the illegal crossing of the state border.
As Tsiskarishvili told journalists, the government wants Mikheil Saakashvili never to be freed.
"It is one of the most absurd and ridiculous criminal cases. The self-proclaimed regime has driven over a million of our citizens out of this country in recent years because of poverty, hopelessness, and lack of prospects. Many of them, including those who entered the US and other countries, crossed the border and were free within a week. We all know very well what kind of 'crime' crossing the border is, especially the citizens of this country. Hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens have crossed the border like this and entered other countries because they escaped poverty and lack of prospects in our state," Tsiskarishvili said.
In his view, the case against Mikheil Saakashvili is politically motivated.
"In reality, they are persecuting him not because it is a serious violation, but because there are members of various terrorist groups who entered Georgia through paths, lived here for months, and nobody asked anything from them. The reality is that Mikheil Saakashvili is the most serious and dangerous political opponent for this regime, and they want to have this case 'sewn up' against him so that he can never be free in this country," Tsiskarishvili added.
The judge has gone into deliberation in the criminal case of the former president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, for the illegal crossing of the state border. The verdict will be announced on March 17.
Recall that Mikheil Saakashvili is charged under Article 344 of the Criminal Code, which concerns the illegal crossing of the state border. The investigation into this case started on October 1, 2021.
In connection with this case, charges have been brought against four other individuals - Elguja Tsomaia, Zurab and Shalva Tchotchoria, and Giorgi Narimanidze. This case is being processed separately, and they have been released on bail.
