Major drug traffickers cannot function without the protection of the state, and of course, this and other forms of crime are intertwined with Bidzina Ivanishvili's clan-based mafia-style rule, - said Tina Bokuchava, leader of "Unity - National Movement," regarding the initiative of "Georgian Dream" which involves tightening the responsibility for actions related to drugs, including cannabis and marijuana.
According to Tina Bokuchava, the issue being brought to the forefront by "Georgian Dream" is cynicism.
"Drug policy and the increase in drug use in Georgia is indeed a problem that affects many people and families. However, it is complete hypocrisy for Bidzina Ivanishvili's 'Russian regime' to bring this issue forward because we clearly understand that major drug traffickers cannot function without the protection of the state, and of course, this and other forms of crime are intertwined with Bidzina Ivanishvili's clan-based mafia-style rule. For this government to bring up this issue is as cynical as, for example, if this government were to start talking about de-occupation, while they are in full collaboration with an occupying state," said Tina Bokuchava.
For your information, "Georgian Dream's" legislative package, which aims to tighten responsibility for actions related to drugs, including cannabis and marijuana, will be discussed today, March 14, by the Parliament's Human Rights Protection Committee. The changes affect eight different laws, including the "Criminal Code," the "Administrative Offenses Code," the law "On Organized Crime and Racketeering," and others. Within the framework of tightening drug policies, several new articles are being added to the criminal law.
