Giuli Alasania: Mikheil Saakashvili has done unprecedented things for Georgia and he is being punished for it - I am not surprised by anything from this government

"I am not surprised by anything from this government," Giuli Alasania, the mother of Georgia's third president, Mikheil Saakashvili, said in response to the judge's verdict sentencing Saakashvili to 12.6 years in prison.

According to Alasania, her son is being punished for the work he has done for the country.

"He is a person who has done unprecedented things for Georgia, his beloved country, and he got this, he is being punished for it. What should be surprising to me since Mikheil Saakashvili is in prison, he was poisoned, he was killed, after that, I don't know what should be surprising to me," Alasania said.

The court found the third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, guilty of illegally crossing the state border. By the decision of Tbilisi City Court Judge Mikheil Jinjolia, Saakashvili was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison. However, he was also sentenced to 8 years for embezzlement of budget funds, and in total, he was sentenced to 12 years and 6 months in prison.
