Paata Manjgaladze: The government couldn't imprison the people, so they "imprisoned" the funds - now we should also ban the sun, because more people will show up at protests in the sun

The government couldn’t imprison the people, so they "imprisoned" the funds. This is not due to their [Georgian Dream's] good life; they cannot stop the people’s protests – they have banned doing good deeds. Now we should also ban the sun, because more people will show up at protests in the sun, - this is how Paata Manjgaladze, the Secretary-General of "Strategy Agmashenebeli," responded to the freezing of several funds' accounts, including "Nanuka’s Fund."

According to him, the funds were not only linked to protests and were involved in many charitable activities, such as providing first aid to people during the natural disaster in Guria, when "the government was asleep."

"The regime used every repressive method before – they threatened people, imposed 5000 GEL fines, monitored their homes, but people still go out in the streets because they are sincerely protesting. The government couldn’t imprison the people or the funds. This is not due to their good life; they cannot stop people’s protests. The 'arrest' of 'Nanuka’s Fund' and other funds will not succeed because the government's capabilities are limited. The law does not state that a fine for a violation must necessarily be paid by the person fined; naturally, a student cannot pay 5000 GEL. This is the role of the funds [to pay fines for those fined at protests].

These are Russian Bolsheviks, and if they could, they would shut off not just the funds, but Georgia’s oxygen too.

They are talking about the funds using their money to buy pyrotechnics for protests. What pyrotechnics are we talking about when people were shot with bear bullets, and no investigation has been conducted? They broke people’s bones, over 500 people have been beaten, and someone somewhere shooting pyrotechnics became a problem? Is beating people the same as using pyrotechnics? They poisoned people with chemicals, and we still don’t know the effects those chemicals had on people. No investigation has even started on this, and now they remember the shooting of pyrotechnics.

These funds were not only connected to protests. They did many good things with these funds, including when a disaster hit Guria and the government was asleep, it was Nanuka’s Fund that provided first aid to the people.

They have banned doing good. Now we should also ban the sun because more people will show up [at protests] in the sun,” said Paata Manjgaladze.

The politician also responded to the 12-year and 6-month prison sentence for Georgia’s third president, Mikheil Saakashvili. In Paata Manjgaladze’s view, the regime was "blaming Mikheil Saakashvili for everything."

“As I read in the case, they were accusing Mikheil Saakashvili of paying 3000 GEL in a bribe, buying a jacket, and purchasing and bringing a bouquet for the funeral. When Kobakhidze went to the tomb of Tamerlane, I wonder if he bought that bouquet with his own money?” said Paata Manjgaladze.
