According to the fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, as part of coordination with the opposition, a joint letter has been sent to European leaders who will participate in the European Council meeting tomorrow.
According to Zurabishvili, the letter requests that the European Council discuss the issue of Georgia.
“As part of the coordination, a joint letter is being sent with my signature to all European leaders who will participate in the European Council meeting tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, the agenda of which currently includes mainly Ukraine, new defense projects and financing. Georgia is not listed as one of the topics on the agenda today. This is exactly what led to the sending of this letter. We understand there are other priorities, but at the same time, there must be a certain attention to what is happening in Georgia today, the daily expansion of the repressive regime. Georgia cannot be considered as a separate closed political crisis, this is part of the crisis that is currently engulfing Europe and which has taken a military form in Ukraine. A fight is being waged against Georgia’s independence, democracy, and Europeanness, which does not have a military form and has taken a hybrid form.
This is what our partners need to understand, the issue of Georgia cannot be left out of the discussion when there is a discussion about the Black Sea. The Georgian Dream intends to bring China to the Black Sea, in the Anaklia port, and Russia also intends to open the Ochamchire port. All this indicates that whether they want it or not, Georgia is in the security of the Black Sea and it should be discussed.
The letter contains a request that the issue of Georgia be directly included in the agenda of the upcoming European Council, which will be held in June, and before that, the readiness for me and coordinated political parties to come and attend the session of the European Parliament and present there the issues that are being raised in Georgia today and should be discussed by European partners,” Salome Zurabishvili said.
