Irakli Kobakhidze on Eurointegration and the opening of negotiations: It is a difficult situation - European bureaucracy is a hostage to its own statements and does not know how to free itself

Regarding Eurointegration and the opening of negotiations, it is a difficult situation. European bureaucracy is a hostage to its own statements and does not know how to free itself from them," Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated in an interview with the First Channel.

According to the Prime Minister, the EU ambassador directly told Georgian voters a few days before the elections that if "Georgian Dream" won and the collective "United National Movement" did not return to power, Eurointegration would be halted.

"The situation regarding Eurointegration and the opening of negotiations is complex. In this case, European bureaucracy is a hostage to its own statements and does not know how to free itself from them. The EU ambassador publicly stated, just a few days before the elections, that if voters did not take action and 'Georgian Dream' won—preventing the collective 'United National Movement' from returning to power—our Eurointegration would be suspended.

He said that under the current government, Eurointegration was stalled. Moreover, he added that people needed to be active on election day to change this situation. In other words, he directly told voters that if 'Georgian Dream' remained in power, the Eurointegration process would remain frozen. The only way to resume this stalled process, according to him, was for the collective 'United National Movement' to return to power," the Prime Minister stated.
