According to businessman Irakli Papiashvili, Giorgi Chikvaidze, who was arrested on charges of misappropriating a large sum of money and has been on a hunger strike for nine days, has been transferred to the penitentiary facility's clinic.
As Papiashvili wrote on Facebook, Chikvaidze's condition is severe.
"He has been on a hunger strike for nine days! A short while ago, Giorgi was transferred to the penitentiary facility's clinic! His condition remains critical! He cannot move without a wheelchair, he has completely lost sensation in his left leg, and the penitentiary medical staff says that his test results are highly concerning!
Today, at the request of President Salome Zurabishvili, Eka Beselia visited Giorgi and described his condition. Giorgi’s stance and determination remain unchanged—he continues to fight until victory!" Papiashvili wrote.
As Giorgi Chikvaidze's mother, Eka Tsereteli, stated in a phone conversation with "Interpressnews," her son has been transferred to the clinic of Facility No. 18.
"He was just transferred. I had arrived earlier, sent in his personal belongings while he was still in his cell, and at that moment, I was informed that he was being transferred. Shortly afterward, I received a call from Penitentiary Facility No. 18, informing me that my son, Giorgi Chikvaidze, had been admitted to their hospital," Eka Tsereteli said.
For reference, businessman Giorgi Chikvaidze, accused of misappropriating a large sum of money, had his initial pretrial measure of a 50,000 GEL bail replaced with detention. He was arrested in the courtroom on March 11. His friend, Irakli Papiashvili, is also charged in the case but remains free on a 50,000 GEL bail. Giorgi Chikvaidze began his hunger strike on March 12.
