"President Trump has supported the main author and initiator of the ‘Friendship Act,’ Senator Jim Risch. Today’s rally is very significant—once again, the Georgian people must show all our partners that this act must be adopted," said Grigol Gegelia, a member of the ‘Strong Georgia’ coalition, regarding the pro-‘Friendship Act’ march in Georgia.
According to Gegelia, the act, which has bipartisan support, presents a unique opportunity for Georgia. Therefore, it is crucial for the Georgian people to reaffirm their stance on its adoption.
"The ‘Friendship Act’ is extremely important. It has bipartisan support and offers Georgia a unique opportunity if the country changes its political course or replaces the ‘Georgian Dream’s’ Iranian-Chinese-Russian criminal regime. On the other hand, if this does not happen, the act imposes sanctions on ‘Georgian Dream.’
This is why the act is politically very significant, and we have seen President Trump endorse its main author and driving force, Senator Jim Risch. Naturally, today’s rally is critical—Georgians must once again show all our partners, particularly the United States, that we are determined for this act to be passed and for our country to be set on the right path," said Gegelia.
Gegelia also addressed the possible participation of opposition parties in the local self-government elections. He stated that, given the current situation in the country, it would be impossible for the opposition to take part in these elections. According to him, discussing this issue seven months in advance only serves the interests of ‘Georgian Dream’s’ honorary chairman, Bidzina Ivanishvili.
"Our position remains clear—discussing this issue in any format is inappropriate and only plays into Bidzina Ivanishvili’s hands. The only topic being discussed in meetings is the demand for new parliamentary elections. We should not be talking about this issue seven months in advance; the State Security Service (SUS) is trying to push this topic as a distraction. In the current situation, where the state and elections have been hijacked, and foreign policy has been altered, discussing local self-government elections is simply impossible," said Grigol Gegelia.
