National Movement: Generals Gogava and Kurashvili have left all party positions, they consider themselves obliged to answer any questions regarding the August 2008 war, in any format, even in the illegitimate parliament

The so-called parliamentary commission created by Ivanishvili’s regime continues to meticulously fulfill the tasks of the occupying Russian government, reads the statement of the Unity-National Movement.

According to the party’s assessment, the main task of summoning politicians is not to establish any factual circumstances, but to stage a political propaganda performance and manipulate them with the threat of arrest.

The Unity-National Movement also notes that Generals Gogava and Kurashvili have left all party positions, they consider themselves obliged to answer any questions regarding the August 2008 war, in any format, even in the illegitimate parliament.

“Despite the stated position of the illegitimate parliament of the Dream that they would not summon a single military person to the Russian commission, the questioning of Georgian military personnel has been announced at today’s session. Ivanishvili's regime decided to question the Chief of the Joint Staff in 2008, General Zaza Gogava, and the Chief of the Peacekeeping Operations Staff in 2008, General Mamuka Kurashvili. General Gogava and Kurashvili are the military men whose efforts enabled Georgia to contain Russian aggression in 2008 and, together with President Saakashvili and our heroic fighters, preserved Georgia's statehood. That is why the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of 2008, President Saakashvili, is spending his fourth year in captivity at the behest of Russia, and that is why the generals are still being persecuted by the Russian Federation.”

“At the meeting of the Political Council of the United National Movement held on February 18, 2025, General Gogava and Kurashvili informed us of their common decision that they consider themselves obliged to the Georgian state and the families and memory of the heroes who died in the war to answer any questions regarding the 2008 war, in any format, even in an illegitimate parliament. At the same meeting, the generals resigned from all party positions, taking into account the position of the party and the general opposition, which excludes the participation of politicians in the Russian commission, since the main task of summoning politicians is not to establish any factual circumstances, but to stage a political propaganda performance and manipulate them with the threat of arrest. Thus, we would like to clarify to the public that the generals will appear before the commission without any party affiliation. We believe that soon, together, we will save our homeland from the internal enemy, who is prosecuting the Georgian state on behalf of the occupier!", the statement of the Unity National Movement reads.
