The Public Defender met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg

On March 27, 2025, the Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, in Strasbourg. This information was released by the office of the Public Defender of Georgia.

According to the statement, the Public Defender provided the Secretary General with information on the human rights situation in Georgia.

"During the meeting, the Public Defender informed the Secretary General about the human rights situation in Georgia. They discussed the state of media freedom, the realization of the rights to freedom of expression and assembly, recent legislative changes, and the Public Defender’s views on these amendments.

The Public Defender and the First Deputy Public Defender, Tamar Gvaramadze, also met in Strasbourg with the Head of the Directorate for Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe and the Executive Secretary of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture," the statement reads.
