On March 27-28, 2025, the Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, and the First Deputy Public Defender, Tamar Gvaramadze, participated in a high-level conference organized by the Council of Europe for ombudsmen and national human rights institutions (NHRIs).
According to the Office of the Public Defender of Georgia, the conference addressed challenges related to the protection of human rights and the rule of law, as well as the role and capabilities of ombudsman institutions and NHRIs in overcoming these challenges.
"During the sessions, participants explored best practices for protecting human rights during crises, discussed the role of ombudsmen and NHRIs in implementing the Venice Principles, the European Convention on Human Rights, and decisions of the European Court of Human Rights, and examined opportunities for cooperation with the Council of Europe.
The conference also covered the role of national human rights institutions in the implementation of the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence," the statement said.
