I would like to respond to the agitation that our activities last week have caused among some of the miscreants and the people who have become victims of their propaganda, - stated the Chairperson of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament, Tea Tsulukiani.
According to her, the commission is investigating aspects of the activities of the officials of the National Movement, and first of all, the decisions of the then Supreme Commander-in-Chief - President Saakashvili.
Tsulukiani also noted that it had already become clear from previous sessions that Saakashvili, Kezerashvili, Merabishvili and other high-ranking officials acted not in accordance with the military plan, but based on political considerations, accordingly, they conducted military operations without having a military plan.
“I repeat once again: our commission is not investigating the military, our commission is investigating various aspects and issues of the activities of political officials during the National Movement regime, first of all, the decisions and activities of the then Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the then highest political official - the President, Mikheil Saakashvili.
It is clear from the previous sessions, although the sessions are continuing, that Mikheil Saakashvili, Davit Kezerashvili, Vano Merabishvili and others, did not have a military plan, and they carried out military operations in August 2008 without a plan. The plan, which was drawn up by our worthy military personnel was rejected and set aside. Accordingly, during the August war, they did not act based on the opinion of the military, but rather guided the hostilities based on political expediency and political considerations,” Tsulukiani noted.
In addition, Tsulukiani spoke about civilians and stated that the commission should thoroughly investigate whether they failed to warn the population or Saakashvili deliberately abandoned them.
“They sacrificed civilians and abandoned them. Moreover, General Kurashvili answered my question that there is a basis for my opinion, namely, the opinion that General Kurashvili, as a representative of peacekeeping operations, together with Vano Merabishvili’s deputy, who was responsible for hostilities, was brought into the area because the population would be calm after seeing General Kurashvili. We should delve into this direction well: did they abandon them and fail to warn the population or did Mikheil Saakashvili deliberately abandoned civilians in the area of military operations," said Tea Tsulukiani.
