Giorgi Butikashvili: The division was caused by a loss of clarity – we must clearly tell voters that anyone who considers themselves a pro-Western force is boycotting the local elections - This is why yesterday's rally did not take place; the process failed

The main division was caused by a loss of clarity... We want clarity, and this clarity concerned the local self-government elections—we must clearly tell our voters that we are boycotting the local self-government elections.

This is precisely why yesterday's rally did not take place," said Giorgi Butikashvili, a member of the "Coalition for Change," on the "Political Space" program of "Palitra News."

According to Butikashvili, the opposition will participate in the resistance platform, and if this does not happen today, it will be even more disarmed tomorrow because, as he explains, the process initiated by "Georgian Dream" will claim even more "victims."

"The process unfolded in the usual manner of Georgian politics—compromises, consolidation, and constructive dialogue generally do not succeed. When one side concedes something, the other side must also make concessions, and there must be a meeting point where we reach an agreement. These agreements existed before, and we were working on them. The dialogue process among the opposition did not start yesterday; it began long ago, and we have achieved certain successes—from the policy of non-recognition to sanctions and also the strategy for new elections—how they should be held. These agreements were made.

The main division was caused by a loss of clarity, and this loss of clarity was particularly important for us because we are living in a time of complete disinformation and propaganda, where truth almost does not exist, and we are forced to live in obscured truths. We want clarity, and this clarity concerned the local self-government elections—we must clearly tell our voters that we, as a united front around Salome Zurabishvili and those who consider themselves pro-Western forces, are boycotting the local self-government elections. This is precisely why yesterday's rally did not take place.

The process failed, and it failed because if Salome Zurabishvili does not declare what our demand is—including that of the parents of political prisoners—and if the parties do not sign the declaration, then what are we declaring?

The resistance platform will obviously continue, and we will have to participate in this process sooner or later. If not today, then tomorrow—but tomorrow, we will be even more disarmed because the process initiated by "Georgian Dream" will not end; it will continue and claim even more victims. While we are strong, while we are capable, and while we are many, we must continue this struggle. Otherwise, the day after tomorrow, we will still have to do it, but by then, we will be far fewer, more people will be imprisoned, more people will be beaten, more people will be forced into exile, and there will be even fewer media outlets to report on it," Butikashvili said.

When asked who disrupted the agreement among the opposition, Butikashvili responded that certain issues remain unclear, including the position of Giorgi Gakharia's party on the local self-government elections.

"Gakharia's (party) had an open position that they did not want to discuss or take a stance on this issue at all (regarding the local self-government elections). Their position is, 'We are not participating under the current conditions,' but if the political situation changes, they will reconsider. However, they never specify what constitutes a political change. This is why our initiative in the declaration was to include clarity—because people need clarity amid so many lies," Butikashvili stated.
