The Chairman of the Georgian Bar Association, Davit Asatiani, met with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze. The information was released by the Georgian Bar Association.

According to the association, the meeting focused on the Convention on the Protection of the Legal Profession, which was recently adopted by the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers.

Davit Asatiani discussed the significance of the convention with the Prime Minister, emphasizing that it is the first and historic document at the European level aimed at strengthening lawyers' rights and ensuring their professional freedom.

"I believe the meeting with the Prime Minister was constructive and productive. We discussed the importance of the convention and the necessity of its ratification in Georgia. The signing ceremony will take place in Luxembourg in May, and I am optimistic that Georgia will be among the first signatory states," said Davit Asatiani.

The association also noted that the text of the Convention on the Protection of the Legal Profession was approved by the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers on March 12. This agreement, which aims to strengthen lawyers' rights and guarantee their professional freedom, is unprecedented and represents a crucial international instrument for reinforcing the independence of the legal profession.

In Georgia, the ratification of the convention will contribute to strengthening the rule of law, ensuring fair justice, and recognizing the role of lawyers in a democratic society by enhancing their professional independence and empowerment.
