Parliament approves Anri Okhanashvili as Head of State Security Service

Parliament has approved the candidacy of Anri Okhanashvili for the position of Head of the State Security Service. The decision was made by 79 votes iatn the plenary session.

Okhanashvili replaced Grigol Liluashvili as the Head of the State Security Service.

The Parliament elected the Head of the State Security Service for a 6-year term upon the nomination of the Government.

At the session of Parliament, the Speaker of the Parliament congratulated Okhanashvili on his election to the new position.

Irakli Kobakhidze made a statement regarding personnel decisions on April 2, which made it known that Grigol Liluashvili had resigned from the position of Head of the State Security Service. Kobakhidze nominated Anri Okhanashvili for the position of the Head of the State Security Service.

Okhanashvili was replaced as Minister of Justice by Paata Salia, a member of the Georgian Dream party.

As for Grigol Liluashvili, as announced at Kobakhidze’s briefing, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development will be divided, after which Liluashvili will take up the position of Minister of Regional Development.

Liluashvili was approved by the Parliament as Head of the State Security Service in October 2019.
