Irakli Kobakhidze: The CEC is responsible for organizing the electoral procedures in the best possible way – all previous elections were conducted very smoothly, but there is always room for improvement

The CEC is responsible for organizing electoral procedures in the best possible way. The CEC has conducted all previous elections very smoothly, but there is always room for improvement, – Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

Kobakhidze was responding to a journalist’s question regarding statements from the third sector about the CEC’s new resolution. According to him, no one is surprised by the NGOs’ speculations.

"Such decisions are made by the CEC. In this case, there were certain practical difficulties that the respective decision aims to address. The experience of past elections also showed that these difficulties existed. Quite often, a certain status held by individuals was being abused, even deliberately. This is the CEC’s responsibility – to organize electoral procedures in the best way possible. As you know, the CEC has conducted all previous elections very efficiently, but of course, there is always room for improvement.

As for the speculations coming from NGOs, we’ve long been used to them, and no one is surprised anymore—especially when we’re talking about individuals who were directly involved in falsification, particularly in manipulating the results of the parallel vote count. Let me remind you that it wasn’t just ISFED that falsified the results—the entire spectrum of the wealthiest NGOs was manipulating those falsified results, including Transparency International. Naturally, those who falsified data are now speculating, but their speculations have no value, because the Georgian public knows exactly who these organizations are," said Kobakhidze.
