“I believe we should recognize the energy of the Georgian people, who continue to hold demonstrations every evening after so many days. They are showing Georgian flags, European flags, and you will also see many Ukrainian flags. So, they are showing which side they are on in this war. They are not on Russia’s side, and they do not see their future with Russia — which, it seems, contradicts Ivanishvili’s regime.

We should assess what is being prepared in Congress, in Washington. Something is being prepared with a bipartisan approach, and also the British have taken measures, as have some member states. I join the call that if Orbán blocks measures at the EU level, then at least there should be some coordination from our executive side with other member states to take measures against the regime and specifically Mr. Ivanishvili. If I’m not mistaken, he is also a French citizen, so if he has any assets in France, certain measures might be taken.

Beyond that, I believe we really need to continue support with the resources we have – especially now, when USAID is no longer present – in order to utilize our own resources,” Gahler stated.
