According to Georgia’s fifth President, Salome Zurabishvili, the protection of democratic principles is being ridiculed today by “Georgian Dream.”
At today’s briefing, Salome Zurabishvili informed the public about her visits to France and the Czech Republic, explaining that Georgia's international partners expressed strong support for the Georgian people.
“You know that I was in France and the Czech Republic. In both places, I was present as a representative of this resistance platform. During the meetings, I shared information about how the new platform plans to operate. You’ve probably seen footage from both events. In France, there was a tremendous expression of support from the public, and that is very important. It was a large civic forum in defense of democracy. It is exactly this protection of democratic principles that is being mocked today by ‘Georgian Dream,’” Zurabishvili stated.
She explained that during her speech before the Senate in the Czech Republic, she spoke about the current situation in Georgia. According to Salome Zurabishvili, there was great support in the Czech Republic, and "they stood up to honor the memory of those who died on April 9."
“They have not forgotten who ‘Rodionov’ was and what he represented. They understand very well the value of those who defended freedom and democracy against Russian brutal forces. The fact that here, someone forgets this, dares to speak in a way that compares Rodionov and the soldiers who killed young people to today’s youth – I am certain this is unimaginable for me and for a large part of society,” Zurabishvili said.
She also noted that the support from the international community is becoming more tangible and active. Salome Zurabishvili mentioned the resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which states that the situation in Georgia has further deteriorated.
