Nobody needed a prime minister whose ministers are led by a person who said a month ago that he was leaving politics and would never return. I did not resign because of Melia, this is out of the question, - the leader of the Gakharia for Georgia party, Giorgi Gakharia, stated at the session of the temporary investigative commission, when explaining why he left the post of prime minister.
Earlier, the commission’s chairwoman, Tea Tsulukiani, asked him if he had met with “some ambassador” who made him change his mind regarding the arrest of Nika Melia, as a result of which he left the team.
“It’s a lie, it’s not true. I confirm that my position was that Melia was to be arrested. Melia needed to be arrested because this gesture, the throwing [of the probation bracelet] was a challenge to the state and the state, of course, had to act. He did this in order to challenge the state. An ordinary hooligan politician acted as... Once again, I confirm that after that, Kobakhidze came, he asked me to come because he was having a hard time with the parliamentarians. I went, I did what I did.In the morning, I went to work as usual, like every day. No idea at all, no resignation, nothing at all,” Gakharia said.
According to him, the party met several times, where there were differences of opinion about the arrest of Nika Melia.
When asked by Tea Tsulukiani whether foreign ambassadors advised him not to arrest Nika Melia and go to the opposition, Giorgi Gakharia replied that “Bidzina Ivanishvili brought me to the opposition.”
“I’m telling you clearly, Bidzina Ivanishvili made me go to the opposition, who violated all agreements. That’s why all this happened. Now you decide whether you want to delve deeper into this topic or not. If you want, I have no problem, I will follow you to the end,” Giorgi Gakharia said.
