Mamuka Mdinaradze : The collective National Movement will once again have the opportunity to participate in the elections - we are ready for the Georgian people to give a worthy answer to the agents’ parties in this year's self-government elections

We are ready for the Georgian people to give a worthy answer to the agents’ parties in the current year's local elections and to win gloriously, and then to prepare a very solid and fact-based constitutional lawsuit, which, in turn, should objectively become the basis for the Constitutional Court to ban the collective National Movement this year, very soon after the local elections, - the Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream, the leader of the majority, Mamuka Mdinaradze, said at the briefing after the end of the majority session.

More specifically, Mdinaradze explained that at today's session, the majority decided to extend the term of the investigative commission for one month, accordingly, the collective National Movement will once again have the opportunity to participate in the elections.

According to Mdinaradze, no one will be allowed to say that the Georgian Dream hastened the ban on the collective National Movement before the local elections.

“As you know, during the work of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament of Georgia, numerous arguments were identified, according to which the Parliament of Georgia has already decided to expand the mandate of the Commission, and as of today, it covers not only the years 2003-2012, but also the entire period up to the present day. Accordingly, the list of objects and issues to be studied is much more extensive, and hundreds of statements are submitted to the Parliament of Georgia every day in the name of the Commission, where horrific stories committed by representatives of the National Movement and its satellite parties are told. I agree, it is practically impossible to bring all of them to the Investigative Commission and study them in detail, however, the Commission is trying to work with maximum workload and accomplish as much as possible.

Last week, the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Commission, Ms. Tea Tsulukiani, raised the issue of the need to extend the three-month period - at least for one month. The parliamentary majority discussed this issue at today's session and decided to agree to this request of the commission and extend its term of activity for one month. In this case, another and very important issue comes to the agenda. As you know, if the commission had only been operating for three months, it would have been possible to complete all procedures in accordance with the relevant rules before the local government elections, but if we extend the period by one month, we can already say that it is physically impossible to complete the process within this period, and therefore, we will have an objective reality when the collective National Movement will once again have the opportunity to participate in the elections.

Nevertheless, we will not refuse to extend the commission’s term, because neither of these cases is a problem for our team. We are ready for the Georgian people to give the agents’ parties a worthy answer in the elections this year and win the local government elections, and then prepare a very solid and fact-based constitutional lawsuit, which, in turn, should objectively become the basis for banning the collective National Movement this year, soon after the self-government elections.

In addition, we will not allow anyone, neither inside nor outside the country, to speculate on this issue and we will not allow anyone to say that the Georgian Dream rushed to ban the collective National Movement right before the self-government elections, and since it became necessary to extend the commission’s term, we will definitely not try to hinder it,” Mdinaradze said.
