Today, the parties are weakened and won't be able to conduct an election campaign, and Georgian Dream will defeat the [opposition], once again proving to its own population and the international community that “the people support us, and we were right on October 26, 2024, we did not falsify the results,” – this is what political scientist Nika Chitadze said on Palitra News’ program "Resume," in response to Georgian Dream’s decision not to prepare a constitutional lawsuit regarding the ban on opposition parties before the local elections.
According to Nika Chitadze, Georgian Dream may also be counting on the opposition not participating in the elections, so they can say that these parties are non-functional.
"Georgian Dream’s" intention to ban political parties represents a Bolshevik, Natsi, and fascist method. When the Bolsheviks came to power in Russia, one of the first decrees Lenin issued was about the temporary ban on political parties. After that, a one-party dictatorship was established. Unfortunately, Georgian Dream is trying to use the same method.
Overall, today's de facto government is irritated by the protest wave that has emerged—even though the leaders of this protest movement are not politicians—they still want to clear the field.
As for Mamuka Mdinaradze’s recent statement, several reasons may be behind it. First, Georgian Dream realizes that despite the current protest mood, political parties are weakened because they did not enter Parliament and refused to take their mandates. As a result, they are not receiving state funding, which would have amounted to a million lari per year. Therefore, the parties are weakened today and won't be able to run an election campaign. Even if they wanted to and agreed to participate in the elections, the financial resources are concentrated in Georgian Dream’s hands, and Georgian Dream will defeat the [opposition], once again proving to its own population and the international community that “the people support us, and we were right on October 26, 2024, we did not falsify the results.”
As expected, representatives of the so-called “collective United National Movement” will refuse to participate in the elections—and Georgian Dream was counting on that too. They will say, “We gave these parties and their voters another chance to participate, but they didn’t want to, so they are non-functional.”
Third, this may be related to the sanctions activated by the West. The British sanctions were especially painful," said Nika Chitadze.
