In the near future, we will have important meetings with European partners – we will have a clear position that sanctions should be tightened against specific individuals who are destroying this country. The extreme measure, which is the cancellation of visa liberalization, should not be used,” said Levan Sanikidze, a member of the "United National Movement."
As Sanikidze noted, Georgians should not be punished because of Ivanishvili.
“In the near future, several important events are planned in Europe. As far as I know, the EPP Congress is scheduled, and we will also have important meetings with our European partners. We will have a clear position that sanctions should be tightened against specific individuals who are destroying this country. The extreme measure, which is the cancellation of visa liberalization, should not be used. Georgians should not be punished because of Ivanishvili. This is a clear position. ‘Georgian Dream’ and its representatives should be punished, not each of us,” Sanikidze stated.
He also spoke about participating in the local self-government elections and said that, sociologically, pragmatically, and politically, participation in the elections is inconceivable.
“Sociologically, pragmatically, and politically, it is inconceivable to participate. Mr. Gakharia plans to participate without receiving guarantees either from Bidzina Ivanishvili or from the West. If Gakharia were saying ‘let the CEC be changed and then I’ll join,’ I could understand that. But his political party is basically saying that they are ready to participate under the current rules set by Ivanishvili. If he wants to position himself within the system, so be it – let him. But it will be very difficult for him,” Sanikidze added.
