Badri Japaridze: An agreement on new elections is essential, and the founder of "Georgian Dream" must realize this – we are gradually getting closer to it, and I have no doubt that it must happen

An agreement on new elections is essential, and the founder of "Georgian Dream" must realize this – we are gradually getting closer to it, and I have no doubt that an agreement must take place.

This agreement is the only way to calm the country, to remove division from society. An agreement is essential for the future of this country. Privileges and benefits that come from being in power now should be set aside. If anyone still feels responsibility toward their country, they must say that an agreement is necessary, as well as the unification of society and calming of the country,” stated Badri Japaridze, one of the leaders of the "Lelo - Strong Georgia" coalition, during the "Political Space" program on PalitraNews.

Japaridze specifically responded to the visit of the Secretary General of the OSCE to Georgia and said that "Georgian Dream's" propaganda is trying to present the visit positively, as if the ruling team had made a major breakthrough. However, he added, "this is on their conscience."

According to Japaridze, the most important thing now is to openly discuss what the country is missing due to the fact that "Georgian Dream" is in power through force. He emphasized that we need to talk about the necessity of an agreement on new elections, which the founder of "Georgian Dream," Bidzina Ivanishvili, must realize, as he is the only person who makes decisions.

"The OSCE Secretary General, as is known, was in the region – OSCE members include Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia. If they (the "Georgian Dream") consider this a breakthrough, that is for their conscience. It is obvious that this is not a breakthrough at all. They should look at the conclusions that the OSCE made about the elections and not shamelessly repeat that this is a positive conclusion. Was the word 'fair' used in their statement? Did any international observer evaluate these elections as fair? – Not one did.

They tell us that we are a democratically elected government – did any observer evaluate it as a democratic election? – No, because these were neither democratic nor fair elections. As for any contact, this cannot be sold, not even their supporters will believe that someone made a breakthrough. This is for their internal consumption.

It is clear that the country is isolated and will remain isolated as long as the autocratic regime tries to continue its brutal policies toward its own citizens.

The most important thing now is that we talk very openly about what the country is missing because "Georgian Dream" is in power through force. We need to talk about the fact that the country has no chance of closer relations with the European Union as long as we have a party that came to power through such violence. We need to talk about the fact that an agreement on new elections is necessary, and the founder of "Georgian Dream" must realize this, as he is the only person who makes decisions.

We are gradually getting closer to it, and I have no doubt that the agreement must take place. This agreement is the only way to calm the country and remove division from society. An agreement is essential for the future of this country. Privileges and benefits that come from being in power now should be set aside. If anyone still feels responsibility toward their country, they must say that an agreement is necessary, as well as the unification of society and calming of the country," said Badri Japaridze.

Michał Kobosko - we hope that your government eventually would either choose the European way, the democratic way or would resign seeing the number, the size and scale of the citizens' protests
