All active people who have been involved in the peaceful struggle against the Georgian Dream regime in recent years have their paths from time to time passing through the so-called prosecutor's office, courts and prison cells - everything they do is absurd and illegal. I think we will meet in another building in a few hours, - said Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change.
According to him, the honorary chairman of the Georgian Dream, Bidzina Ivanishvili, is forced to increase repression.
"All active people who have been involved in the peaceful struggle against the Georgian Dream regime in recent years have their paths from time to time passing through the so-called prosecutor's office, courts and prison cells, although this is temporary. Ivanishvili understands that a semi-democratic system, or a semi-autocratic regime, is very dangerous for him, because he may incur the wrath of the people to the point of losing power, so he is forced to increase repression.
The more repressive steps Ivanishvili takes, no matter how pessimistic the people may be about the change of Ivanishvili’s government, this regime will change. A citizen of Georgia cannot become a citizen of Soviet Georgia.
As for the charges, everything they are doing is absurd and illegal. I think we will meet in another building [city court] in a few hours,” said Nika Melia.
Nika Melia was officially charged with failing to comply with the request of the Georgian Parliament's temporary investigative commission.
For information, Nika Melia was summoned to the session of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament for explanations, which he did not attend.
The aforementioned action is considered a crime under Article 349 of the Criminal Code, which refers to "failure to comply with the request of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament of Georgia".
This action is punishable by a fine, or imprisonment for a term of up to one year, or deprivation of the right to hold a position or engage in an activity for a term of up to three years.
