Our political opponents predicted an economic crisis in Georgia and tried to create such a perception in society - fortunately, neither their predictions come true nor their plans are being implemented, - Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated at the government meeting, where he spoke about economic growth.
According to him, without peace, security, and stability, there would have beeen no economic progress.
“Our political opponents predicted an economic crisis in Georgia and tried to create such a perception in society. The perception that the country was heading towards an economic crisis. I would like to recall the comment of one of their representatives, who stated on January 17 that in 3 months, three months have already passed, the GEL exchange rate against the dollar would be around 3.1, today it is within 2.75. A 2% decline in the economy was predicted by this particular former politician and now an expert. As it was said, we have 3.9% economic growth in the first quarter. Inflation is 6% and above, that was the forecast and inflation is also within the permissible limit. They said that the tax revenue plan would not be fulfilled and as you can see, this plan was fulfilled in the first quarter with an excess of more than 120 million GEL.
It is very sad when specific people are quite consciously trying to create negative expectations in the country, to sow nihilism, this, of course, has specific political reasons, this is an order that specific people, our political opponents, are carrying out. Fortunately, neither their forecasts come true nor their plans are being implemented. It is in the interests of our society for the economy to grow rapidly, for additional new jobs to be created, for the wages of employees to increase. We will spare no effort in all directions to ensure that economic progress continues in our country.
I would like to thank the economic team for the results that you have in the first quarter of 2025. I would also like to note that, together with the economic team, the agencies responsible for our security make a special contribution to all this. Without peace, security, and stability, of course, there can be no economic progress. In this regard, special thanks go to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri. Do you remember what processes we have gone through in the past months? If it were not for the MIA, the Minister, and each police officer standing at the highest level of responsibility, we would not have been able to maintain stability and would not have such economic growth data. It is our responsibility to society to do our best for the further development of the country,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
