The court ordered Giorgi Bachiashvili, the former director of the Co-Investment Fund, to pay Bidzina Ivanishvili 9,000 bitcoins.
As Bidzina Ivanishvili’s lawyer Teimuraz Tsikvadze stated, the court fully granted their request. According to him, if Giorgi Bachiashvili does not find the aforementioned bitcoins, then Bachiashvili’s personal property will be sold based on the price of bitcoin during the decision-making process.
“The court fully granted Bidzina Ivanishvili’s lawsuit. The case was considered in a simplified manner, with today’s decision the court satisfied our request, and set a 7-day deadline for appealing the decision. The court also satisfied our request for immediate enforcement of the property. Our request was for Giorgi Bachiashvili to return the bitcoins, because the decision in the criminal case established that he had misappropriated up to 9,000 bitcoins belonging to Bidzina Ivanishvili. If it turns out that Giorgi Bachiashvili does not have these bitcoins, then he will be obliged to return the amount of these bitcoins to the plaintiff in the amount available at the time of enforcement of the decision,” said Teimuraz Tsikvadze.
According to Giorgi Bachiashvili’s lawyer, Sopo Kurtauli, “the court had no right to consider the case in a simplified manner; the case should have been considered in a common lawsuit manner, since the deadline for appealing the verdict has not expired.” According to her, Giorgi Bachiashvili has the opportunity to appeal the verdict to the second instance.
For information, the court found Giorgi Bachiashvili, the former CEO of the Co-Investment Fund, guilty of misappropriating cryptocurrency of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the Georgian Dream, and sentenced him to 11 years in prison.
The judge found Giorgi Bachiashvili guilty of both charges, misappropriation of a large amount of money and legalization of illegal income.
