Special Investigation Service launches investigation into death of 46-year-old prisoner

According to the Special Investigation Service, they have launched an investigation into the death of 46-year-old Ioseb Gorgadze at the Vivamedi Clinic.

As InterpressNews was told by the agency, the investigation was launched under Part 2 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code, which refers to official negligence that resulted in the loss of human life.

The Penitentiary Service has not yet commented on the death of the prisoner.

Gorgadze's lawyer, Mukhran Ghurtskaya, provided InterpressNews with information about the death of the prisoner. According to the lawyer, the prisoner was transferred from Gldani Institution No. 8 to the Vivamedi Clinic with injuries in January.

According to the lawyer, Gorgadze was beaten to death and tortured in prison. The lawyer does not know who committed the violence, the prisoners or the employees working there.

According to Ghurtskaya, Gorgadze's facial bones were broken, more specifically, according to the lawyer, the prisoner had about 30 fractures in the facial area and also had brain swelling.

Ioseb Gorgadze was detained in connection with a traffic accident. The accident claimed the lives of 4 people.
