Khatia Dekanoidze: The impact of the MEGOBARI Act will affect those violent individuals and officials for years — not only those who gave the orders, but also those who carried them out. They still fail to realize what a stigma it is to be under Ivanishvili’s Russian subjugation

"The impact of the MEGOBARI Act will be felt for years by the perpetrators, officials, bureaucrats, public servants, prosecutors, judges, and representatives of state institutions," – this is how United National Movement member Khatia Dekanoidze assessed the MEGOBARI Act, supported by the U.S. House of Representatives.

According to Dekanoidze, even the business sector financing Ivanishvili’s government will not be able to escape the Act’s consequences.

"The influence of the MEGOBARI Act will also impact, for years, those perpetrators, officials, bureaucrats, public servants, prosecutors, judges, and representatives of state institutions who, under this government, not only gave orders but executed them.

Even the businesses that fund Ivanishvili’s government won’t be able to escape this influence—just like the Patrick Leahy Act, which was specifically applied by the U.S. to the Yanukovych government. However, MEGOBARI is much stronger.

They still fail to understand what a stigma it is to live under Ivanishvili’s Russian subjugation," Dekanoidze writes on Facebook.

For context, the U.S. House of Representatives has approved the MEGOBARI Act—formally titled the Mobilizing and Enhancing Georgia’s Options for Building Accountability, Resilience, and Independence Act. It passed with 349 votes in favor and 42 against. The bill must now be approved by the U.S. Senate.
