"Georgian Dream" claimed that January 20 would come and everything would happen just as Trump said. However, three months have passed since then, and what we have seen is a bipartisan act introduced by a representative of the Republican Party.
This is a bipartisan approach to the damage that Georgian Dream has been causing for so many years," – said Ana Buchukuri, one of the leaders of For Georgia, on Palitra News' program Day's Newsroom, commenting on the U.S. House of Representatives' support for the MEGOBARI Act.
According to her, the support for the MEGOBARI Act is a significant political statement from the U.S.
"The lower chamber of the congress of our strategic ally has adopted such a strict legislative act. Beyond being just a legal document, it is an important political message. It was supported by 349 congressmen, with only 42 voting against it. These numbers show that it has practically full support. This is a bipartisan act.
Also, everyone clearly saw the propaganda and lies of Georgian Dream about Trump's return. For me, as a citizen, the most painful thing is that Dream’s incompetence and harmful actions have brought us to this result. They have turned away our friends—the ones who defend our territorial integrity. This is a betrayal of the country. The country remains isolated.
I expect that the adoption of the MEGOBARI Act in the U.S. will certainly have a ripple effect in Europe as well. As you know, in the EU, the positions of France and Germany have historically held great significance. Since Germany has a new government and internal political processes are underway, it will take some time. After that, they will ‘get around’ to Georgia," she said.
As for other topics, including the Resistance Platform and ongoing consultations with Salome Zurabishvili, Ana Buchukuri said that the For Georgia party does not plan to participate in the organizational part of the event scheduled for May 26. However, it fully shares the spirit of celebrating Independence Day.
"Our party's cooperation with Salome Zurabishvili is limited to two issues: the release of political prisoners and preserving the European perspective, as well as the issue of calling new elections. Accordingly, we are absolutely open to cooperation on those matters. As for the events planned for May 26, we will not participate in organizing them, but of course, we will celebrate May 26 – Independence Day," she stated.
