Non-governmental organizations join the idea of the May 9 Unity and Freedom Day and call on everyone: to stand together, on Europe Square – on May 9, at 19:00, and together make our choice, - Nino Lomjaria, Executive Director of the Georgian European Orbit, said at the briefing.
According to her, Georgia belongs to Europe, and the promise of Europe belongs to the Georgian people.
“May 9 – Europe Day – is our day of unity and freedom. Non-governmental organizations join the idea of May 9 Unity and Freedom Day and call on everyone: to stand together, on Europe Square – May 9, at 19:00, and to make our choice together.
75 years ago, on this day, the foundation was laid for the European Union – the most successful and powerful political and economic cooperation union in the history of states, where every country and every citizen is free: protected from violence, injustice and poverty, protected from being persecuted, not being harassed, illegally dismissed from their jobs, having decent living conditions and not living in injustice.
Unfortunately, political repression, torture, organizing physical attacks on opponents and impunity for perpetrators, political prisoners, detained and beaten journalists, corruption and unfair trial, poverty, political control over independent state institutions pose a serious threat to both state stability and the well-being of citizens, the idea of justice and the European future.
Georgia began its journey on the path of European civilization centuries ago. We believe that Georgia’s place is in Europe. We believe that joining the European Union is vital for our country, for the well-being, security and development of each of its citizens. And, most importantly, we know that the will of the people always defeats evil. Therefore, on May 9, 2025, on Europe Day, Georgians meet together at Europe Square with unchanged demands.
Once again, we call on everyone:
Let’s stand together at Europe Square – on May 9, at 7:00 PM.
Before that, from 17:00, marches towards Europe Square will start from the following points:
From the Parliament of Georgia building (students' march);
From Marjanishvili Square;
From Republic Square;
From Avlabari metro station.
Georgia belongs to Europe, and the promise of Europe belongs to the Georgian people.
Our strength is in Europe.
Our strength is in unity,” Lomjaria noted.
