“We are witnessing a reckless attitude toward Georgia, and blatant interference in Georgia’s internal politics,” said the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, speaking to the media after the conference in Budapest.

According to Shalva Papuashvili, it is important for the European Union to wake up and return to its founding values.

“When it comes to Georgia, the incompetence of leaders in various EU countries is driving many things in a negative direction. Georgia is a good test for everyone. We see a reckless attitude toward Georgia, we see crude interference in Georgia’s internal politics. We see post-Soviet EU member states approaching Georgia with Soviet-style methods. That’s why it is important for the EU to wake up and return to its foundational values, which, first and foremost, mean respect for one’s own people and respect for their choice.

It also means unity among countries based on preserving diversity – not by forcing one country’s idea of cultural identity or ideology onto another. Today, we are living through a time of collapse for false ideologies, especially in the United States, brought about by Donald Trump’s victory,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
