“A journalist from Imedi was attacked at the Europe Day events organized by Pawel Herczyński. He has said nothing about it. What happened is appalling, and even more appalling is that there has been no reaction,” – said the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, speaking to journalists.

According to him, it is “disgusting” when at an EU-organized event celebrating Europe Day, a journalist is attacked by people who are themselves funded by the EU budget.

Papuashvili emphasized that it is even more disgraceful when the EU Delegation, the organizer of the event, fails to respond – which, in his view, amounts to encouraging violence.

“It is very unfortunate to see Pawel Herczyński donning the prosecutor’s robe with enthusiastic pleasure, talking about sanctions. His hostile expectations are obvious, and he speaks about them with joy.

It is deeply regrettable when an ambassador, accredited to represent the European Union, assumes the role of a prosecutor and presents himself as an inquisitor of the Georgian people and its government.

A journalist from Imedi was attacked during the Europe Day events organized by Pawel Herczyński. I don’t know whether he has said anything about it today or not, but until now, he hasn't. And if he still hasn’t, that is disgusting.

It is even more disgusting when the EU Embassy – the organizer of the event – does not react to it, which in itself amounts to encouraging violence,” – stated Shalva Papuashvili.
