The UN system does not elect candidates for such leadership positions more than twice, this was one of the reasons, as there was no precedent for this and it is considered undemocratic at all when the same candidate is nominated for such a position for the third time, - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in response to a question regarding the withdrawal of Zurab Pololikashvili's candidacy from the UN World Tourism Organization.
According to the head of government, the message spread by Zurab Pololikashvili on this topic was regrettable.
Kobakhidze also explains that he does not want to go into details about the reason for the decision, although one of the reasons was that specific states began to summon our ambassadors "as a kind of demarche" regarding the fact that Georgia had submitted its candidacy to the UN system for the third time.
"The "Deep State" was mentioned and I didn't understand what the "Deep State" has to do with this topic at all, but in general it's a pity. One thing is interesting, too, that he is the incumbent head of the UN World Tourism Organization and when the head of one of the UN organizations speaks with such vocabulary, it's very interesting, I won't repeat the specific terms that he used. I don't want to go into details about what was the reason for the decision. One of the reasons was that specific states started summoning our ambassadors as a kind of demarche regarding the fact that we had submitted our candidacy to the UN system for the third time. This is the first precedent, we were told. Candidates for such leadership positions are not elected more than twice in the UN system. This was one of the reasons, as there was no precedent for this and it is considered not democratic at all when the same candidate is submitted to such a position for the third time. There were also other reasons, I don’t want to get into that. The only thing I can say is that this message, considering its content and vocabulary, firmly proved that our decision was absolutely correct,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.
For information, Zurab Pololikashvili claims that the decision to withdraw his candidacy from the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization has not been agreed with him.
He speaks about this in a letter sent to Formula and demands that Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze explain why he did this and “what he exchanged” his candidacy for.
"It probably seems strange that I am not visible... I have a 12-hour flight. When I got on the plane, I saw the decision of the “deep” rats. I will fly down and talk to you tomorrow. Until then, the fact that this was my desire or was agreed upon with me is a big lie. It would be good if Kobakhidze explained why he did this... I have been writing, calling him and he has been hiding for 3 weeks and more, let him come out and say what he exchanged my candidacy for! I do not represent either the deep state or the global war party - I am the Georgian Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organization," he notes in a letter published by Formula.
