The fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, met with the German Ambassador and expressed her support and solidarity over the incident in Batumi, both on her own behalf and on behalf of the Resistance Platform.

Salome Zurabishvili commented on the incident in Batumi, during which the German Ambassador was verbally insulted.

According to Salome Zurabishvili, a large part of the Georgian people appreciate Germany's support. According to her, there is no European integration process without Germany.

According to her, what happened is an insult to Georgia.

"I would like to respond to the incident in Batumi, which concerned the German Ambassador and his wife. Both were insulted. I believe that this is more an insult to our country, to Georgia. A country that has received the greatest assistance from Germany in all directions over the past 30 years, even in the direction that almost all of those who are in power in this country today from the Georgian Dream, graduated from German universities. This is the country that supported us and the role of which was decisive when we received the status of a candidate country for joining the European Union. Without Germany, there is no integration process. I would like to, for my part, and also in this I would like to unite the Resistance Platform, express our support, solidarity with the Ambassador and his wife. We have friends in Europe, these friends help us, and I know that a very large part of Georgian society supports and appreciates us. The Ambassador, when I met him today, himself told me that at the time when someone was cursing, there were many ordinary people, representatives of society, who raised their voices and expressed their support and respect for the Ambassador and his wife. I would like to personally thank them,” Salome Zurabishvili said.

According to media reports, Peter Fischer was verbally insulted in Batumi on May 18.

"The embassy confirms this incident and thanks those Georgians who happened to witness the incident and supported the ambassador in this situation as a guest of their city. After the Georgians standing around pointed out to Mr. Kochiashvili his unworthy behavior, he quickly left the scene. The police were not at the scene," the German embassy told Formula.
