Shalva Papuashvili: It is alarming that the EU delegation has not once condemned the violence, hate, and disinformation coming from individuals it has funded

Referring to the parliament elected by the people as "illegitimate," along with spreading disinformation, is a rejection of democratic institutions – this is what the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, wrote on social media, sharing a statement from GYLA.

He notes that the EU Delegation must clarify whether it intends to respond to the spending of EU citizens’ money to support extremism.

"Calling a parliament elected by the people 'illegitimate,' together with disinformation, is a rejection of democratic institutions. The goal of denying democracy is to create an ideological basis and false legitimacy for extremism.

The NGOs, Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association and the Social Justice Center, are primarily funded by the EU Delegation. The Delegation must clarify whether it plans to react to the use of EU citizens’ money to support extremism.

It is alarming that the EU Delegation has not once (!) condemned the violence, hate, and disinformation coming from individuals it has funded.

Responsible donor behavior is not a choice but an international legal obligation, enshrined in the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness. Violating this is a violation of the rules-based international order,” Papuashvili writes.
