The question was provocative, and the diplomat could only respond the way he did — by saying that if such a situation exists, there would be an appropriate response in any other region. But such a government does not exist in Georgia, said Archil Gorduladze, Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee, when assessing U.S. Senator Marco Rubio’s remarks.
According to him, Georgia has a pro-Western government that prioritizes democratic principles.
“As one of the journalists from the United National Movement’s TV station would say – people know English and how to use Google, so they can ‘Google’ and listen to the statement in English, where it is said that if there is an anti-American regime or government in any region, the U.S. will respond to it.
At the same time, we should ask: is there an anti-American government in Georgia? No. On the contrary, our government is determined to have equal and respectful relations with all partner countries and organizations.
The provocative question was asked by Joe Wilson, who is filled with hatred and hostility toward Georgia, which he has demonstrated not only through this question but also by initiating hostile acts against the country.
The question was provocative, and the diplomat could only give the kind of answer he did – that if such a regime exists, there will be a response in any region. But such a regime does not exist in Georgia. On the contrary, Georgia has a pro-Western government that upholds democratic principles, with a foundation in dignity, history, and the sovereignty of our country.”
Gorduladze also responded to a question about what the ambiguity in U.S.-Georgia relations means for Georgia.
He said that this is precisely what Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s open letter and statements by “Georgian Dream” members aimed to address – namely, to express the need for a clear, strategic roadmap that would take the partnership to a new, deeper level.
“That’s exactly what we want. And when there is a values-based alignment — at least with the values expressed by the Trump administration, which align directly with those of ‘Georgian Dream’ and the Georgian people — it is surprising when we don’t hear clear responses or positions in return.
We are open to any kind of relationship, committed to partnership, and we are doing everything to ensure that – both behind closed doors and publicly. We are keeping the public informed, and one of the purposes of the open letter was just that.
When a reciprocal step is taken, that will be another positive move toward improving relations — relations that were significantly damaged by the previous government managed by the deep state, the Biden administration, and the former U.S. ambassador,” said Archil Gorduladze.
