I am sure that Ms. Robin Dunnigan really wanted to participate in the May 26 event, but she was not allowed to do so precisely because of the influence of the “deep state”, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
According to him, if the “deep state” is to determine American greetings, it has no value for them.”
“The “deep state” is gaining strength, we can see it. If the “deep state” is to determine American greetings, it has no value for us. This is a system completely entangled in bureaucracy. A struggle is underway. I am sure that Ms. Robin Dunnigan really wanted to participate in the May 26 event, but she was not allowed to do so precisely because of the influence of the “deep state”. The influence of the “deep state” was clearly felt in the statement that was circulated. This is the reality of today. I repeat once again that such congratulations have no value for us. I remain hopeful that the Trump administration will prevail over the "deep state". This is necessary for the recovery of Georgian-American relations," Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the congratulations on Independence Day and explained that the US Ambassador to Georgia did not attend the May 26 event, which is "the wrong approach".
"You saw that the State Department distributed congratulations without an addressee, and the ambassador did not attend the event. First, they said through direct correspondence that she was not in Tbilisi, then they publicly stated that she was not in Georgia. Of course, this is the wrong approach. We see that a struggle is underway in the USA between the Trump administration and the "deep state". In this case, it became clear that the “deep state” is dominated by the State Department. This is an incorrect attitude. Do you remember that through NGOs, a virtual reality was created in Georgia regarding American aid. Finally, I put numbers in my letter with mathematical precision, which confirm that we have given more financial benefits to the USA, I mean our participation in military missions, than we have received aid from there. I would like to emphasize once again that the funds paid to NGOs are not included in the aid. The Trump administration also noted that the money paid to NGOs was not aid at all,” Kobakhidze said.
According to the Prime Minister, “one cannot constantly talk about the fact that if it were not for American support, Georgia would not exist.”
