Sergei Gavrilov: Irakli Kobakhidze did the right thing when he condemned the incident involving the Russian flag

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, rightfully condemned the desecration of the Russian flag by a Georgian singer, calling it a trivial act of arrogance, stated Sergei Gavrilov, a member of Russia’s State Duma, in a comment to journalists.

“The brazen behavior of singer Erekle Getzadze on stage regarding the flag is not an act of courage but plain arrogance. Irakli Kobakhidze did the right thing by condemning the incident,” Gavrilov said.

According to him, Russia and Georgia share a centuries-old common history, family ties, language, and traditions, and the singer’s actions have nothing in common with genuine Georgian values.

The Russian MP also said the singer’s behavior was “talentless self-promotion” and should be distinguished from genuine political disagreement.

“This is not freedom of expression—it’s total stupidity and a direct, foolish insult,” Gavrilov noted.
