According to Giga Bokeria, chairman of the “Federalists” party, the letter from Bidzina Ivanishvili, honorary chairman of “Georgian Dream,” is “yet another shameless admission of betraying Georgia’s national interests.”
Bokeria notes that Ivanishvili, who has ambitions of leadership, is unable to set aside his personal financial issues for the sake of the country’s national interests.
According to Bokeria, “under Ivanishvili’s regime, it is impossible to protect our national interests, and therefore, we must remove him from power as soon as possible.”
“We heard yet another shameless admission from Ivanishvili of betraying Georgia’s national interests. The man is telling us, ‘Because of my financial issues, I won’t meet the U.S. Ambassador and resolve the crisis in our country’s relations,’ which he himself acknowledges. He says that even if it could lead to a good outcome for both countries, he would still have a complex about it—so let him not have that complex then.
Shouldn’t a country’s leader, who has such ambitions, be able to set aside personal financial problems when it comes to the nation’s interests?! And he presents all this as nobility, this brazen man. He himself admits it doesn’t matter, but says, ‘I won’t meet with you, meet with my political nobody instead.’
And most importantly, this refusal to meet is a statement that ‘until my financial issues are resolved, you’ll have problems with me.’ Of course, the truth lies elsewhere: this entire crisis was created by Ivanishvili. I have no illusions, and no one should have any, that protecting our national interests is possible under Ivanishvili’s conditions while he holds power. Therefore, we must remove him from power as soon as possible,” Giga Bokeria stated.
