“I felt very sorry for Vakhtang Gomelauri on a human level because of the way Mr. Ivanishvili treated him – he was the one most affected by the sanctions,” – this is how one of the leaders of “For Georgia,” Kakha Kemoklidze, responded to the resignation of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri.
According to Kakha Kemoklidze, Vakhtang Gomelauri was subjected to the harshest sanctions, and in this context, his dismissal from office is “very difficult on a human level.”
“I felt very sorry for Vakhtang Gomelauri on a human level because of the way Mr. Ivanishvili treated him. I think he was the one most harmed – politically internally, externally, and by the sanctions. Among the members of ‘Georgian Dream,’ including some very bad people, Mr. Gomelauri was hit by the harshest sanctions that exist on this planet. In this context, when they let him go, if we set aside political affiliations and evaluations, it is very hard on a human level,” said Kakha Kemoklidze.
In response to a question about whether the ongoing personnel changes in the government strengthen Kobakhidze’s influence while diminishing Ivanishvili’s, Kakha Kemoklidze replied that in “Georgian Dream,” no one except Bidzina Ivanishvili has any electoral weight, and in elections, they might not even get a thousand votes.
“Is Mr. Kobakhidze getting stronger politically? If you take away his position, does he have any electoral weight? If Bidzina Ivanishvili were to step aside and Mr. Kobakhidze were to stand directly, face-to-face with the public, how many votes would he get? A thousand votes? I suspect he wouldn’t even get a thousand. No one except Ivanishvili has any electoral weight there, although maybe we could include Mr. Kaladze on that list,” said Kakha Kemoklidze.
