Over the past four years, the Georgian police have prevented four attempts of encroaching on Georgia’s sovereignty and overthrowing the government – the repulse of large-scale violence has left no lasting mark on the health of any citizen, – Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in his speech at an event dedicated to Police Officer’s Day.
According to Kobakhidze, today the Georgian police have a higher standard than the European and American ones, “which has been clearly confirmed once again by recent events.”
“The transformation of the police, which was carried out under our government, has become one of the most successful reforms. It has brought recognition, trust and respect to the police. Professionalism, adherence to the principle of equality before the law and respect for citizens are the basis of your success. It is thanks to each of you that today the Georgian police are a symbol of trust and security for the citizens of our country. Today, the Georgian police, in essence, work at a higher standard than the European and American ones, which has been clearly confirmed once again by recent events. Over the past four years, the Georgian police have prevented four attempts of encroaching on Georgia’s sovereignty and overthrowing the government. It should be noted once again that the repelling of large-scale violence did not leave any long-term traces on the health of any citizen. For the professionalism shown during these events, I would like to express special gratitude to all relevant units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - the Special Tasks Department, the Criminal Police Department, the Patrol Police, the heads of departments and each employee, each police officer, who took care of the protection of state sovereignty and public security with a high standard in the most difficult days," the Prime Minister said.
In addition, Irakli Kobakhidze thanked the former Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, and noted that the new Minister, Gela Geladze, will successfully continue the work he started.
"I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the person who led the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia for many years and who made a special contribution to the reform of the police. I thank Vakhtang Gomelauri for the professionalism and patriotism with which he served our country for many years. I am sure that the new Minister, Mr. Gela Geladze, will continue the work started by Vakhtang Gomelauri with great success," Irakli Kobakhidze said.
