Congratulations on the Police Day - Today reminds us of the great responsibility that police officers have towards the country and our citizens, - the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, said in his speech at the event on the occasion of the Police Professional Day.

As Shalva Papuashvili noted, the role of police officers is crucial in ensuring a safe environment and justice.

“A modern democratic state is built on three main pillars: freedom, equality and law and order. The work of the police serves to protect all three of them. Recently, you have had to make special efforts and demonstrate high professionalism in order to protect public order and safe environment. Internal and external radical groups tried to make violent demonstrations a rule and norm, but they were not allowed to do so. You have proven once again that even in the most difficult situations, against the backdrop of insults and physical attacks, you performed your duties to the best of your ability and managed the processes properly.

Violence, vandalism, attacks on law enforcement officers and public institutions go beyond any definition of peaceful protest. Anyone who claims otherwise is an enemy of democracy,” Papuashvili said.

According to him, in times of violence, the state has not only the right to act, but also an obligation.

“You have faithfully fulfilled this obligation of the state, successfully dealt with the attack on the constitutional order of Georgia and defended the sovereignty of Georgia with dignity. You risk your lives and health on a daily basis so that we can live in a peaceful and safe environment. Your work involves tireless work, patience, courage and dedication. This is an effort that is often invisible, but extremely important and valuable. I would like to remember and honor the memory of those police officers who sacrificed their lives to create a peaceful environment for our fellow citizens. Their courage will forever remain in our memory,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
