President Trump's letter reflected the common values that bind the Georgian government and President Trump's administration, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said, responding to the letter sent by US President Donald Trump to Mikheil Kavelashvili on May 26.
According to him, the US Embassy in Georgia has not yet posted President Trump's letter on its website.
"Two letters were published, the first was published on behalf of the State Department, and in our opinion, this letter served only one purpose, to activate the opposition rally on May 26. However, you can see that no more than 3,000 people came to that rally despite maximum mobilization, neither the letter nor maximum mobilization helped. Later, a congratulatory letter from President Trump was released, which was sent to President Kavelashvili. This letter reflected the common values that connect the Georgian government and President Trump's administration. However, you can also see that the US Embassy in Georgia has not posted President Trump's letter on its website to this day, for the 4th day if I'm not mistaken. As they themselves used to say, everything is clear. This is the only assessment I can make," said Irakli Kobakhidze.
He also responded to the visit US Senator Steve Daines to Georgia, who met with both the opposition and the government. According to Irakli Kobakhidze, “the opposition is in a funny state.”
"The opposition is in a funny state, I don't know why they needed to lie. They themselves knew that the senator had planned a meeting with the government. The meeting was different in essence from the meetings that we remember from the past. It was about resetting relations from an absolutely healthy angle. We once again stated our position that the Georgian government is completely open to consultations. We openly and publicly declare that we want to renew our strategic partnership with the US from a clean slate, with a specific roadmap. It is impossible for the Georgian government to make a clear offer on this.
Under these conditions, the "deep state", entangled in bureaucracy, is trying to create certain barriers to the restoration of Georgian-American relations, although I am sure that President Trump will prevail over the "deep state" and nothing will stand in the way of the renewal of Georgian-American relations," said Irakli Kobakhidze.
