The EU’s active support for the Georgian citizens’ demand for new elections is needed, the fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, says in response to the joint statement by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, on the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

“Calling on GD authorities responsible for stopping the European path and imposing Russian laws is hopeless. But EU’s active support is needed for the massively pro European citizens of Georgia and their demand for New elections in line with European Parliament Resolution!!”, - Salome Zurabishvili writes on X.

For information, today EU High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas and Commissioner Marta Kos issued a joint statement on Georgia’s Foreign Agents Registration Act.

“Together with the recently adopted laws on broadcasting and grants, this is yet another aggressive step taken by the Georgian authorities to suppress dissent, restrict freedoms and further narrow the space for activists, civil society and independent media. These repressive measures threaten the existence of Georgia's democratic foundations and the future of its citizens in a free and in an open society," the statement said.
