Georgia, as an aspirant country, continues to effectively use the main instruments of NATO integration and other practical mechanisms and programs - reads the annual report of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, which he will present to Parliament on June 27.
According to the report, the implementation of the initiatives defined by the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package continues actively. In addition, work continues with partners to strengthen support for the Substantial Package, both by attracting financial and human resources.
“It is important that in 2024, the Administrative Arrangement on the Protection of Classified Information Exchanged was signed between the Government of Georgia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which is in force since February 26, 2025.
Georgia is the first non-NATO state to participate in the NATO maritime security operation “Sea Guardian” since 2023, within the framework of which two rotations were carried out - in 2023 and 2024, and the next rotation is planned for 2025.
Georgia, as a potential operational partner of the NATO Mission in Iraq (NMI), made an official statement about its desire to participate in the mission.
It is noteworthy that within the framework of the 2024 rotation, Georgia increased its contribution to the NRF with a NATO-certified special operations force unit. Since October 2024, the transition of Georgian units declared in the NRF to a new NATO initiative, Partners Augmentation Forces to NATO, has been implemented.
In 2025, the Ministry of Defense hosted the fourth NATO-Georgia exercise, in which 17 member and partner countries of the alliance participated.
Within the framework of the European European Peace Facility (EPF), the Eastern and Western combat engineer battalions, command infantry brigades were equipped with off-road vehicles. In the military-medical direction, ROLE 2F level equipment for units was purchased. In order to improve medical services, the military hospital was equipped with modern equipment worth approximately 2 million euros.
Significant attention is paid to result-oriented bilateral cooperation with 34 NATO member states and Georgia’s partners (26 NATO members and 8 partners).
Within the framework of bilateral cooperation with the United States, great attention is paid to the successful implementation of the Georgia Defense and Deterrence Enhancement Initiative (GDDEI). The main goal of the initiative is to strengthen deterrence, territorial defense, national resistance and resilience capabilities, as well as to ensure the highest degree of interoperability with NATO.
In 2025, Georgia will host the multinational international exercise “AGILE SPIRIT 2025”, the planning of which is underway intensively. In 2025, other joint exercises are also planned with the United States.
Bilateral cooperation with other partners continues actively, including Germany, France, Turkey, Italy and Canada.
Within the framework of good-neighborly relations with the countries of the region, the Ministry of Defense continues to cooperate with the Ministries of Defense of the Republics of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The Azerbaijan-Turkey-Georgia trilateral cooperation format, which aims to strengthen regional security and establish close relations between the armed forces, is successfully functioning. In 2024, Georgia hosted the Azerbaijan-Turkey-Georgia trilateral defense ministerial and the trilateral exercise Eternity,” reads the statement.
