"We are launching a process that will serve as the basis for the full-scale reform of state-owned enterprises," — said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a government meeting.
According to the Prime Minister, this involves changes in management and the revitalization of the system.
“The full reform of state-owned enterprises is one of the demands of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Finally, foreigners are asking us to do something that actually aligns with the interests of the state, and I believe it would be wrong on our part not to implement the relevant recommendations. Therefore, we are initiating a process that will lead to the comprehensive reform of state-owned enterprises, which includes management changes, system revitalization, refinement, and improvement.
Optimization is one direction that will allow us to save money and improve efficiency, but alongside that, important reforms must be carried out within state enterprises to maximize efficiency. Whether it’s the railway or the energy sector, there is room everywhere for improved cost-effectiveness and greater success for our country — and this will definitely be done.
For example, in the energy sector, certain practices had been established that directly hindered its development. These practices will be entirely eliminated within the next two months at most. The same must be done in every other area. Maximum efforts will be made to improve the management system of state-owned enterprises in our country, which will additionally stimulate Georgia’s economic development.
To support this, a legislative package will be prepared in the near future and submitted to the Parliament of Georgia. We will ask Parliament to adopt this package as quickly as possible so that the reform of state-owned enterprises can be fully implemented,” the Prime Minister stated.
