The Parliament Bureau has approved the composition of friendship groups with various countries. According to the Parliament's decision, friendship groups were formed with the parliaments of all designated countries except for three: Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
Although a political decision had been made to establish friendship groups with the parliaments of these three countries, as stated during today’s Bureau session, the groups could not be formed because MPs declined to join them.
According to Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, “this is due to the unfriendly policies these three countries have shown toward the Georgian people.”
“We hope that the parliaments of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia will return to a friendly policy toward the Georgian people. This would allow us to form the respective friendship groups. Politically, we had decided to create friendship groups with the parliaments of these three countries, but they were not formed.
As long as these three parliaments pursue unfriendly policies toward the Georgian people, it is difficult to expect that the representatives elected by the Georgian people would want to be part of friendship groups with parliaments that act unfriendly toward them.
Therefore, we call on the parliaments of these three countries to return to the format of friendship and abandon their unfriendly actions toward the Georgian people,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
