Forcing opponents to publicly apologize and repent due to personal insults or crude political criticism directed at the regime’s leader, oligarch, or their family members is yet another alarming and shameful symptom of where Ivanishvili’s regime is taking the country, stated Giga Bokeria, leader of the “Federalists” party. Bokeria was responding to a statement by Tina Bokuchava, chairwoman of “Unity National Movement,” regarding the abduction of her husband.
According to Bokeria, we are dealing with a dangerous phenomenon.
“No matter what we hear from the regime’s propaganda or the Ministry of Internal Affairs regarding this issue, what we have already seen and what is indisputable—I mean the public repentance from an opponent of the government—is entirely sufficient to conclude that we are indeed dealing with such a dangerous phenomenon.
Alongside defeating Ivanishvili’s regime, reforms must be implemented in the country to prevent those in power from using such repulsive methods.”
For context, Tina Bokuchava, leader of “Unity National Movement,” stated that her husband, Kote Ioseliani, was ambushed by five masked individuals near their residential building’s entrance, attacked, and abducted. Bokuchava announced this at a briefing, responding to a video recorded by her husband in which he apologizes to Uta Ivanishvili.
According to Bokuchava, the abductors exerted pressure on her husband for eight hours and threatened the safety of their children.
Bokuchava noted that they suspect Kote Ioseliani was held for many hours in the so-called “module building.”
She further stated that the real reason for the incident was to intimidate and silence her.
As a reminder, yesterday Kote Ioseliani released a video apologizing to Bidzina Ivanishvili’s son, Uta Ivanishvili, for statements made about him several years ago.
