According to Mamuka Mdinaradze, Executive Secretary of “Georgian Dream” and leader of the parliamentary majority, the Georgian Criminal Code will be amended to include a new penalty: “deportation of foreigners from Georgia and a ban on re-entry for a specified period.”
Mdinaradze stated that fines for foreigners who violate Georgia’s residency rules will also increase, and the procedure for deporting foreigners residing illegally in the country will be significantly simplified.
“We discussed an issue that has been particularly concerning our society in recent times, due to circulated footage or existing realities. I want to present to you, in response to these challenges, a new initiative of the Georgian Parliament and the parliamentary majority—‘On International Protection’—which entails the following: the Criminal Code will include a new type of penalty—deportation of foreigners from Georgia and a ban on re-entry for a specified period.
The Administrative Offenses Code will also include a new type of administrative penalty—deportation of foreigners and a ban on their re-entry to Georgia.
Additionally, fines will increase for foreigners who violate Georgia’s residency rules, and the procedure for deporting foreigners illegally residing in the country will be significantly simplified,” Mdinaradze stated.
