I have the impression that since the opposition is not in this hall, you have decided to confront me, but I will try to answer all the questions - if the Public Defender comes out and talks about how good things are in the country, I think he should not be the Public Defender at all, - Public Defender Levan Ioseliani stated at the plenary session of the Parliament, where he presented his annual report.

As he noted, the report includes many positive issues, however, in the Parliament, in front of the deputies, he focused on the problems.

"I have the impression that since the opposition is not in this hall, you have decided to confront me, but I will try to answer all the questions. I think there are many examples of violence against journalists. If you look at the report, there are facts of beatings of journalists, attacks on journalists. There are specific cases in the report. I can name the names of journalists who were injured during the rallies. For some reason, I get the impression that when I present the report, I have to talk about positive issues. The report consists of 400 pages, about 30 times the paragraph begins with "welcome", "I evaluate it positively". I did not convey these parts of the report deliberately, as I wanted to draw your attention to problematic issues. I can't read 500 pages here, and in the short time allotted to me by the regulations, I'm trying to focus your attention on the most problematic issues. That's why I'm mainly talking about problems. I want you to know this, but of course, there are issues in which there is progress, there is positivity, etc. So, I don't think the Public Defender should position himself differently. If the Public Defender comes out and talks about how good things are in the country, I think he shouldn't be the Public Defender at all," Levan Ioseliani addressed the Georgian Dream MPs.
